These Fairfield County High School Seniors Named Regeneron Scholars

Eight high school seniors from Connecticut are among the top 300 scholars in the Regeneron Science Talent Search 2023, regarded as the nation’s oldest and most prestigious scholastic science and math competition, the Society for Science announced on Tuesday, Jan. 10.

The 300 will be awarded $2,000 each and their schools will be awarded $2,000 for each enrolled scholar.

The Regeneron Science Talent Search scholars were selected from 1,949 applications from 627 high schools across 48 states, Washington, DC, Puerto Rico, and four other countries.

The following Connecticut students were named:

  • Stephanie Yien Chang, Age: 17, Greenwich High School. Project Title: A Multi-Omics Approach to Host-Microbe Interactions in Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Targeted Cell-Type Discovery.
  • Angie Fogarty, Age: 17, Greenwich High School. Project Title: Rapid, Visual Detection of Illicit Substances in a Variety of Environments via Competitive, Amine-Responsive Fluorophores.
  • Isabella Angelina Gega, Age: 17, Greenwich High School. Project Title: Synthesis of Polysaccharide-Encapsulated Hydroxyapatite Nanocomposites To Stimulate Plant Growth and Promote Phosphorus Absorption.
  • Ambika Grover, Age: 17, Greenwich High School. Project Title: Design of a Novel, Dual-Functioning, Tissue Plasminogen Activator and Factor XI-Inhibiting Anticoagulant Therapeutic for Rapid Ischemic Stroke Treatment
  • Ryan Hwang Kim, Age: 18, Choate Rosemary Hall, Wallingford. Project Title: A Novel Affordable Artificial Intelligence of Things System for Real-Time Traffic Optimization and Emissions Reduction.
  • Gouri Krishnan, Age: 18, King School, Stamford. Project Title: Energy Loss From Wasted Plastic and Lighting Inefficiency Can Be Reduced Through a Combination of Environmentally Friendly Polymers Created From Biomass and Energy-Saving Electrochromic Windows.
  • Ben Persily, Age: 17, King School, Stamford. Project Title: Utilizing and Optimizing Prime Editing To Target Endogenous Loci (CFTR and SOX2) and Ameliorate Genetic Disorders in Pluripotent Stem Cells.
  • Ryan Yunrui Yang, Age: 18, Choate Rosemary Hall, Wallingford. Project Title: Aggregation in the Mirror Space (AIMS): A Low-Cost, Gossip-Based Distributed Machine Learning Framework.
