The incident took place around 1:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 18, when police responded to the scene of the fatal crash in Bridgeport at 430 Barnum Ave., said Terron Jones, a spokesman for the Bridgeport Police.

Once on the scene, officers found an unidentified male was crossing Barnum Avenue, west of the intersection with East Main Street and outside of the crosswalk area when he was struck by a 2015 Volkswagen Passat traveling westbound on Barnum Ave., Jones said.

The Volkswagen's driver, Moniece McNeil, of Bridgeport,  was allegedly intoxicated, police said.

The Bridgeport Fire Department and AMR ambulance quickly arrived on the scene and started life-saving techniques. The unidentified male was transported to Bridgeport Hospital for treatment, where he was pronounced dead due to blunt force trauma, Jones said.

McNeil was arrested and charged with manslaughter with a motor vehicle and insufficient insurance. She is being held on a $150,000 bond.

The Bridgeport Police Department Crash Reconstruction Team has responded to the scene to conduct further investigation. Anyone with additional information, related to the crash, is asked to contact Officer John Perry at 203-576-7640.
