Jose Perez, 18, of 43 Young Dixon Way, was arrested after the chase ended on a dead-end street in Greenwich at 3 a.m., police said.
Officers Daniel DeRocco and Conor Canning were stopped at the red light at Hoyt and Bedford Streets right in front of police headquarters at 805 Bedford St. when they noticed a Hyundai steaming south on Bedford Street and driving past, police said. Bedford Street is a one-way northbound street.
The driver refused to stop and continued south onto Atlantic Street's northbound lane at speeds up to 60 mph, police said. The vehicle then turned onto State Street before driving into Old Greenwich and onto Fairfield Avenue, police said.
After the driver hit a dead end there, two suspects in the vehicle jumped out, police said.
Perez was quickly caught while the second individual was able to elude offices, police said.
A K-9 unit was brought in but lost the scent of the second suspect, police said.
The vehicle had been reported stolen in Norwalk, and officers found a purse in the vehicle that had been stolen from a vehicle at a North Stamford residence, police said.
Perez was charged with first-degree larceny, first-degree reckless endangerment, interfering with an officer, reckless driving, sixth-degree larceny and operating a motor vehicle without a license.
