Police: Bearded Man Robs Bank At Gunpoint Inside Shelton Stop & Shop

SHELTON, Conn. — Shelton police are searching for a bearded man who committed an armed holdup of the People's Bank inside a Stop & Shop grocery store on Tuesday afternoon.

At about 12:30 p.m., the Shelton Police Department received a holdup alarm from the bank inside the Stop & Shop at 898 Bridgeport Ave. A few moments later, a 911 call from the bank reported that an armed robbery had occurred, police said.

Patrol officers and detectives responded and learned that a white man with a scruffy beard and dirty blonde hair had approached a female teller, police said.

The man displayed a dark semi-automatic pistol and demanded cash from both tellers on duty, police said.

The tellers complied, and the man left the bank on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said.
