A man is accused of driving while intoxicated after police said he crossed the double yellow while driving in Fairfield County.

Robert Oxer Sr., age 71, of Darien, is facing charges of operating under the influence and failure to drive right in the Sunday, Oct. 10, incident, according to the Darien Police Department.

At about 1:20 a.m. on Sunday, an officer reportedly saw a southbound vehicle on Long Neck Point Road in Darien crossing the double yellow line into the northbound lane.

The officer stopped the vehicle in a driveway on Pear Tree Point Road.

The officer reported smelling "a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage" when approaching the driver, identified as Oxer, police said.

Oxer failed to perform field sobriety tests to standard, and he later submitted a breathalyzer test, which measured his BAC to be .10 at about 2:20 a.m., police reported.

Authorities said Oxer was released on $100 bond and is set to appear in court on Monday, Oct. 25.
