Man Stabbed, Killed During Altercation In Bridgeport

Police are investigating the first homicide of the year in Bridgeport following a fatal stabbing on Monday.

The incident took place around 6:15 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, when a 39-year-old man was stabbed during an altercation inside 136 Bishop Avenue, said Bridgeport Police Capt. Brian Fitzgerald.

After the stabbing, the victim exited the premises and collapsed on the sidewalk nearby, he said.

A witness called 911 and the victim was located by police. He was transported by medics to Bridgeport Hospital where he was pronounced dead, Fitzgerald said.

Detectives processed a crime scene and are following leads in the case, he added.

The victim's name is being withheld at this time pending autopsy and notification of next of kin.
