Morgan Barth led Achievement First Amistad High School in New Haven since 2016.

The video was obtained by the New Haven Independent, which said it was from an incident in the fall in which the student was trying to leave a meeting in his office about an earlier altercation.

When Barth realized the effect the video had on his effectiveness as the school's leader, he resigned immediately, the school said.

Fatimah Barker,  the organization's Chief External Officer said the conduct shown in the video is unacceptable.

"When this incident happened, we conducted an internal investigation, documented the incident in accordance with state laws, and worked with the student’s family – including sharing the video with them," Barker said. "In addition, Mr. Barth was disciplined and also required to attain additional restraint training.”

A principal from another Achievement First school will temporarily run the school until the end of the year while a search for a new leader is conducted in the coming days and weeks.
