GREENWICH, Conn. -- When the lockdown alarm went off at Greenwich High School at noontime Wednesday, 12th-grader Scott Rusk and his fellow students thought it was just a drill.

"I heard the siren for the lockdown drill and it was going off for a while — and the next thing we knew we were being searched by policemen," he said. Rusk spoke late Wednesday afternoon as he waited for a ride home after students had been dismissed from school following the nearly four-hour lockdown.

"They had to make sure to search everyone so that nobody had anything on them," Rusk said.

He said police didn't release much information about what had happened.

"They told us that something went down during lunch," he said.

A threat had been discovered on a bathroom wall forcing school staff to go into a lockdown, police said.

The students were all gathered in the auditorium while police conducted a search of the school, he said. Rusk said the time started to drag as he and others waited to be released.

"It was kind of boring honestly because I ran out of things to do on my phone," he said. "I had no games on my phone that didn't need a wi-fi connection so I couldn't really do anything."

He will be attending Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in the fall and hopes to eventually study gaming.
