A traffic stop in Wilton led to drug charges for a Bridgeport motorist, according to police.

Wilton Police say they observed a 2002 Mercedes Sedan traveling south on Danbury Road in the area of Wilton Acres following too closely to the rear of another vehicle on Friday, June 7 around 9:15 p.m. The vehicle also had illegal window tints, according to police.

Officers say they conducted a traffic stop and identified the driver as 29-year-old Wesley Somers of Bridgeport.

During the stop, police say Somers became uncooperative and did not want to tell the officers where he was coming from or where he lived.

Further investigation revealed that Somers was concealing about .5 ounces of powder cocaine in his right sock, police say.

Police say a K-9 inspection of the vehicle led to the discovery and seizure of the following:

  • Two scales
  • Cash totaling $611
  • More than 75 empty plastic bags
  • Approximately .48 ounces of marijuana
  • Three THC vape pens
  • One marijuana pipe
  • Approximately .25 ounces of bath salts

Somers was placed under arrest and had his vehicle towed. He faces the following charges:

  • Following too closely
  • Illegal operation of a motor vehicle without tint inspection
  • Use of drug paraphernalia <1/2 ounce
  • Use/possession of drug paraphernalia <1/2 ounce of marijuana
  • Intent to possess narcotics (second offense)
  • Possession of a controlled substance or >1/2 ounce of cannabis
  • Possession of less than 1/2 ounce of cannabis
  • Interfering with an officer/resisting arrest

Somers was held on a $50,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Monday, June 10.
