The accident occurred at about 1:38 p.m. when Santiago, 40, of Kossuth Street, was traveling west on Jane Street and lost control of his Suzuki GSXR-600 motorcycle and slid underneath a moving Greater Bridgeport Transit bus traveling north on Noble Avenue, said Evans.

Santiago suffered severe trauma to his head, neck and body. Rescuers used air bags to lift the bus off him, police said.

He was transported to Bridgeport Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:32 p.m., Evans added.

The 53-year-old woman driving the bus was not injured. Four bus passengers were transported to area hospitals, but none of their injuries appeared to be life-threatening, police said.

The bus was removed from service pending a Division of Motor Vehicles safety inspection.

Police Officer John Perry is the lead investigator in the accident, and was the first team member on the scene.
