Stamford Police said four New Haven men were busted on Tuesday, Jan. 22 at the Stamford Town Center parking lot around 5:10 p.m. after police learned they had an appointment to sell guns in the area, said Stamford Police Capt. Richard Conklin.
Members of the Organized Crime and Narcotics Unit along with patrol division officers set up a surveillance on the area after learning of the deal, Conklin said.
When the men arrived at the parking lot they were taken into custody without incident. During the bust, officers found three weapons, one that was stolen, and five bags of fentanyl, along with the sleeping child in the backseat of the vehicle who was not in a child safety seat, he added.
"This was a disturbing case on many levels when you have loaded weapons and drugs and you add a baby into the mix," Conklin said. "Very troubling."
All arrested, who are convicted felons, were charged with numerous weapons, drugs, conspiracy, and risk of injury to a child charges.
They include Victor Berrios-Sanchez, 22; Nyejire Redmond, 18; Joel Cruz-Berrios, 22, and the driver, John Medina, 26, all of New Haven.
The firearms included a 45-caliber semi-automatic that was reported stolen in New Britain in December, a 22-caliber handgun with six rounds; a 25-caliber with three rounds in a sock, and a 45-caliber with eight rounds.
Officials with the Department of Children and Families were also contacted regarding the child who was eventually reunited with his mother, Conklin said.
All are being held on $100,000 bond except for Berrios-Sanchez, who is being held on $150,000 bond.
