Joseph M. Konner, 84, Shelton Resident

SHELTON, Conn. — Longtime Shelton resident Joseph M. Konner died on Monday, May 16. He was 84.

Konner served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, then went to Sikorsky Aircraft, where he worked as a configuration manager in the Black Hawk program for more than 35 years, before retiring in 1992. 

Together with his wife, Phyllis (Spooner) Konner, he was a founding member of St. Margaret Mary Church, where he was a member of the men’s league, served as an usher, and coached at the former St. Margaret Mary School. 

Konner formerly served as the chairman of the the Shelton Board of Education and as the board chairman of the Parks and Recreation Department. 

He helped start the girls softball program in Shelton and coached little league baseball. 

Konner is survived by his wife, Phyllis, his daughter, Cynthia Johnson and her husband Alan, his sons Michael and David Konner, his daughter, Kathleen Konner, and his son, Paul Konner and his wife, Liz.

He also is survived by his sister, Dolores McGill, seven cherished grandchildren, Joseph Konner, Jennifer Cardoza, Thomas LaBranche, Steven LaBranche and his wife Keilan, Amanda LaBranche, Bill Unger III, and Robert Unger, and great-grandchildren, Ayanna, Joseph, Alex, and Damian.

Konner was predeceased by his son, Joseph Konner and his parents, Michael and Estelle (Popowski) Konner.

Friends may greet the family from 3-7 p.m., on Monday, May 23 at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, in Shelton. 

On Tuesday, May 24, his procession will leave the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Margaret Mary Church at 11 a.m. 

Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Shelton.
