Walter Reed, of Westport, allegedly robbed Subway at 709 Post Road in Fairfield on May 2, when he reportedly asked a cashier to make change for a dollar bill,” Fairfield Lt. John Bucherati said. When the cashier opened the drawer, Reed allegedly took out a gun and stole approximately $390 from the register and took off on foot.

Bucherati said that “it was determined that the same male had been in the Subway Shop located at 1996 Post Road a short time earlier on that same day. At that time, this male took money from the tip jar after asking the cashier to make change for a dollar bill. The cashier never opened the jar. Approximately $20 was taken from the tip jar.”

The investigation led detectives to Reed, 48, whose vehicle was located on River Lane on May 14. Police said that Reed was found inside the home and surrendered without further incident.

Reed was arrested and charged with first-degree robbery and two counts of sixth-degree larceny. He is being held on a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, May 28.
