Westchester Man Convicted On Weapons Charges For Defaced Handgun

A Westchester man was found guilty by a jury of possessing an illegal weapon.

Richard Johnson, of Mount Vernon, was convicted on weapons charges.

Richard Johnson, 37, of Mount Vernon, was found guilty on Monday, Dec. 2, following a jury trial in Westchester County Court on multiple felony weapons charges.

Johnson was found guilty of one count of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, all felonies, Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino, Jr., announced.

On Aug. 16 last year, Mount Vernon Police officers responded to a 911 emergency call on Hussey Road where there were reports of a man with a gun. Upon arrival, police found Johnson with a loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun that had the serial number defaced.

Johnson was arrested at the scene without further incident, and he was later indicted by a Westchester County grand jury. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 15 next year.
