A 35-year-old convicted felon landed behind bars after allegedly running a red light in front of a police officer in Fairfield County.

Ramon Capacete, of Seymour, was arrested on Tuesday, Feb. 24, in Shelton after police officer John Kekac stopped his vehicle for running a red light on Bridgeport Avenue, said Shelton Police Det. Richard Bango.

After stopping Capacete, Kekac discovered the vehicle was not registered or insured and that Capacete did not have a driver's license, Bango said.

A K-9 narcotics search of the vehicle turned up 33 grams of cocaine and 5.5 grams of marijuana, along with an unlicensed loaded semi-automatic 380 pistol, Bango said.

Capacete is a convicted felon and is prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition, Bango said.

He was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit, possession with intent to sell, illegal possession of narcotics and various motor vehicle charges.

Capacete is being held on a $50,000.00 bond.
