Officers arrived quickly and located the man in the middle of the roadway near the double yellow line. He was unconscious and suffering from significant injuries, said Capt. Rose Dell of the New Haven Police.

An ambulance rushed the pedestrian to Yale New Haven Hospital were he was pronounced dead.

The New Haven Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Team was activated and have completed its initial on-scene investigation.

Investigators will continue to search for witnesses and video surveillance. The investigation is expected to take some time, Dell said.
