Following a hearing this week in Bridgeport Superior Court, a judge allowed James Taylor, 75, to be released from custody under the condition that he lives with his son Chris Taylor, a member of the Bridgeport Board of Education.
Taylor was arrested in February after he allegedly shot and killed his ex-wife. Officers responded to a Catamount Road home at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Feb. 3, where Catherine Taylor was found dead at the scene.
According to reports, the two had been divorced for two decades, but had recently rekindled the relationship. They had an alleged dispute, where Taylor was accused of stealing his ex-wife’s car, which was later recovered at a mutual friend’s home.
Catherine Taylor reportedly moved into her son’s home temporarily, when James Taylor allegedly broke into the residence and fatally shot her with a rifle. His step-son fought with Taylor and struck him several times in self-defense while calling the police.
While under house arrest, Taylor will be required to wear a GPS monitoring anklet and is not permitted to go more than 500 feet from his son’s home, outside of doctor’s appointment. He must also stay at least 2,500 feet from his stepson’s home. The case has been continued until Wednesday, May 22.
