CT State Police Warn Against Dangers Of Ice, Snow Missiles

Connecticut State Police are reminding motorist to remove all those "ice missiles" from their vehicles before driving to avoid causing crashes and damaging other vehicles.

State police are warning residents to remove all snow and ice from their vehicles to prevent 'ice missiles' from hitting other vehicles.

Troopers said many drivers don't clean "all" of the ice and snow that has frozen off their vehicles, causing a great hazard for other drivers. On Tuesday they released several photos of shattered windshields to highlight the dangers.

"This is a huge initiative for our troopers during and after any snow storm… We are hoping that the picture will help drive the message home," the department said.

Troopers have been responding to an alarmingly high number of calls for snow/ ice damage to vehicles on the highways in the last 36 hours, the post said.

"This is one of the worst years we have had," the department said.

When motorists fail to remove snow and ice from their vehicle they are putting themselves and others at risk, especially when on highways traveling at speeds of 70 mph or more. The ice can cause real damage and even death.

"Cold weather is NOT a valid excuse!!," they added.

If you do happen to get stopped for having large amounts of snow or ice on your vehicle, the fine is $120.
