Fresh vegetables, fruit and flowers are among the many enticing items for sale from such vendors as Stone Gardens Farm in Shelton, Stone Gardens Cut Flowers in Shelton, Biscotti Etc. from Sandy Hook, and Jones Family Farms in Shelton.
Michael Yachymczyk, the “Market Master,” is in charge of running the market, which is set up on Wednesdays and on Saturdays.
“On Wednesdays there are a few vendors, but we get the most vendors on Saturdays. We are hoping to see more vendors come out on Wednesdays,” Yachymczyk said.
“What I’m looking for to bring to the market is music, art, and anything made in Connecticut,” he said. “What we also would like to do is still keep the market producer-friendly so when you buy your food, you get to meet who sells it to you."
One unique and local vendor who turned out on Wednesday was The Little Dog Laughed. The small Shelton business has been run for about a year by a mother-and-daughter team, Lisa and Gabi Cheney.
Their products for cats and dogs range from homemade soap and toothpaste, to biscuits, to dog spray, fashion accessories and more. If you want your dog styling, you will definitely want to check out their items.
For the treats, the team at The Little Dog Laughed uses fresh vegetables from local farms.
“We like to know where we get our food from, which is why we use the local farms and we use them in our products as well,” said Cheney.
Cheney said her daughter went to school in New York for design and that was her inspiration for the designs for many of the doggy products.
One design on display is a bow clip for little dogs shaped like sunglasses. “The dogs can have them sitting on their heads that look like they have little sunglasses on them,” Cheney said. They also doggy bow ties that come in many unique colors and designs.
The Shelton Farmers Market takes place Wednesdays from 3 to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information, click here to visit its Facebook page.
