On Friday, Dec. 2, the Shelton community gathered, along with the Boys & Girls Club, and celebrated the holiday season with hot cocoa, cookies, Christmas caroling and the arrival of Santa Claus.
Kids got to make handmade ornaments and hang them onto the town's tree that was to be lit up — or they could bring them home for their own special trees.
"It was so nice being able to watch my son Connor make an ornament and hang it up on the tree. In fact, he was so excited he made a second one to bring home to put on our tree," said Susanne Mullers.
"The look on his face was priceless and it was nice to see him happy," Mullers added.
In addition, caroling for the evening was presented by Center Stage.
"It's great to see everyone here tonight. Each year we get between 150 to 200 people that come out to celebrate the tree lighting here in the Shelton Community," says Nicole Heriot-Mikula, the owner of bringtheHoopla and one of the organizers for the event.
Throughout December, Celebrate Shelton will be marking the holiday season with the handmade market that started on Dec. 3 and will continue through Saturday, Dec.17. It is located at 415 Howe Ave. in the Conti Building.
