John Docktor was first diagnosed with the illness in the fall of 2015. Since then, he's exhausted the sick, personal and vacation time he had accumulated over the course of his career.

He is about to begin working at a 50 percent pay decrease on account of his illness, according to David Catlin Sr., founder of a GoFundMe page aimed at raising money for Docktor and his family.

"John has had nothing but kind words for all," Catlin said, adding that Docktor is "always lending a hand to help everyone."

The White Hills Fire Company's fundraiser is schedule for 5-8 p.m. on June 4 at the firehouse, 2 School St., Shelton.
