Cafe 1840 located in Litchfield County in New Milford offers casual meals such as sandwiches and salads and plenty of sweets along with an open mike night and a cigar night.

The interior is funky with fish tanks and art that offers plenty of eye candy while you eat, and plenty of class.

The owners, Stacy Murphy, and Jeff Chowanec enjoy getting to know their customers and work hard to make sure that all food is up to high standards.

Favorites on the menu seem to be the homemade quiches and sandwiches, along with the home-baked sweet treats including waffles on a stick with plenty of fun toppings.

Although they don't have a liquor license, the restaurant is BYOB and on Friday nights, diners are offered free bourbon to enjoy with a cigar (you bring the cigars) on the outdoor patio area.

Friday's are also becoming very popular for being open mic night where anyone can have 15 minutes of fame on the stage and perform poetry, music, comedy, whatever they wish to do!

The owners hope to have a beer and wine license soon to round out the menu.

The service is friendly and from what online reviewers and foodies are saying, the food, especially the sandwiches, is top-notch.

The restaurant is currently operating during summer hours and is closed on Monday and Tuesday. The restaurant is open Wednesday and Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.; Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Prices are moderate. Fun is free.

The restaurant is located at 64 Bank St., in New Milford.
