Fairfield Museum Sets Sails With Adventures in Bridgeport

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield Museum and History Center will offer two sailing adventures, the Sunset Sail and the Family Sail, on Sunday, Oct. 9, at Captain's Cove in Bridgeport.

The Family Sail will be from 1-3 p.m. Explorers of all ages are invited to enjoy the excitement and wonder of Long Island Sound aboard the Schooner SoundWaters.

Sailors will work together to raise the sails, examine firsthand the rich diversity of the life that exists beneath the waves, sample and test water quality, learn about hypoxia and analyze groundwater, according to a release from the Fairfield Museum.

The cost is $25 for nonmembers and $22 for members. Advance registration is required. Click here to register online. The Schooner sails at 1 p.m.

Guests should arrive no later than 12:45 p.m. at the boardwalk entrance at Captain’s Cove in Bridgeport.

The Sunset Sail will be from 4:30-6:30 p.m. on the Schooner SoundWaters. The sail will feature a talk with Adam Whelchel, Ph.D., about the measures in place and actions required to ensure a resilient future for Connecticut’s coastline, the release said.

Whelchel is the director of science with the Nature Conservancy and the principal architect and developer of the Community Resilience Building Workshop system.

This sail is recommended for adults. Wine and light fare will be provided. Advance reservation is required. The cost is $50 for nonmembers and $45 for members. Click here to register online.

The Schooner sails at 4:30 p.m. Guests should arrive no later than 4:15 p.m. at the boardwalk entrance at Captain’s Cove in Bridgeport.

All proceeds from both sails will benefit Fairfield Museum’s education programs.

These programs are presented in conjunction with the newest exhibition at the Fairfield Museum and History Center, "Rising Tides: Fairfield’s Past to Future," opening Thursday.
