SHELTON, Conn. -- The Shelton Republican Town Committee will hold its annual Lincoln-Reagan Dinner on Saturday, April 16, at 6 p.m. at the Shelton Senior Center, 81 Wheeler St.

State House Minority Leader Themis Klarides (R-114) will be the guest speaker at the event.

Tickets are $65 per person in advance, and $80 per person at the door.

During the evening, Shelton resident Joseph DeFilippo will be presented with the Gov. John Davis Lodge Award in recognition of his many years of service to the City of Shelton and the Republican Town Committee.

The award, which has been presented annually since 1987, recognizes those who share Lodge’s dedication to public service and American ideals.

DeFilippo, who was born in Shelton in 1926, is a lifelong resident of the city.

One of seven children, he attended Shelton public schools and enlisted in the Navy during World War II, serving in the Pacific. His last assignment after the war ended was on the Missouri.

After his tenure in the service, he was hired by Sikorsky Aircraft and was employed there for 35 years, retiring as a foreman.

Following his retirement, DeFilippo served as a sheriff at the Bridgeport Court House.

He has been a member of the Shelton Parks and Recreation Commission since the late 1970s, having been appointed by then-Mayor Gene Hope.

He has also served on the Citizens Advisory Board for over 15 years, and is currently a Shelton constable.

A member of the Republican Town Committee for over 40 years, DeFilippo is presently a member of its Steering Committee.

He is also a member of Shelton’s American Legion and Three Saints Church in Ansonia.

In addition, DeFilippo was a founder of the city’s Biddy Basketball league in the early 1960s, serving for a time as its assistant director.

He and wife, the former Irene Plaskon, were married for 62 years before her death this past January.

The couple knew each other since childhood, both having grown up in the Coram Gardens area. Their family includes two children and four grandchildren.

For more information on the dinner, or to make a reservation, contact Anthony Simonetti, Shelton Republic Town Committee chair, at 203-605-7712 or Virginia Harger, Dinner chair, at 203-924-0054.
