Mitt Romney Leads In Fundraising, Poll In Ridgefield

RIDGEFIELD, Conn. – Former Gov. Mitt Romney has the lead with Ridgefield voters in this year’s presidential race, though President Barack Obama isn’t too far behind, according to a poll of readers by The Ridgefield Daily Voice.

In the Daily Voice poll posted this month, readers voted that they would pick Romney as the next president over Obama. A wider ranging and more statistically accurate poll from Quinnipiac University released Oct. 4 saw the opposite result, reporting that Obama had the lead with voters in Connecticut. Quinnipiac reported that 54 percent of likely voters chose Obama, compared with 42 percent for Romney.

And according to Open, contributions to Romney’s campaign far outstripped those made to the president. As of the start of October, Romney brought in $142,250 in Ridgefield, more than twice the $57,423 Obama pulled in.

When it comes to state races and money, Republican U.S. Senate candidate Linda McMahon, former president of World Wrestling Entertainment, has just more than $14 million in the bank, although about $13 million of that is her own money. Her Democrat opponent, U.S. Rep. Chris Murphy, has raised more than $5.6 million, none of which is his own money, according to Open

According to a Rasmussen report released Oct. 9, Murphy has overtaken McMahon in the polls by 5 percentage points with 51 percent of the likely voters polled. McMahon had 46 percent.

The fundraising for Democratic U.S. Rep. Jim Himes is about double his competitor, Republican Steve Obsitnik, at nearly $2.8 million. Comparatively, Obsitnik has raised more than $1.5 million.
