A woman from Fairfield is facing DUI charges after police say she was swerving in her vehicle in Darien.
Darien Police observe a black Mercedes sedan traveling eastbound on Post Road on Thursday, March 7 around 12:30 a.m. The observing officer stated that the vehicle was swerving out of its lane multiple times before turning into a parking lot without using a blinker.
The officer pulled the vehicle over and identified the driver as 51-year-old Melissa Bongiorni, who told police that she was driving home from Stamford. The officer allegedly noted an alcoholic odor emanating from Bongiorni’s vehicle. When asked whether Bongiorni had anything to drink, she admitted that she had.
Bongiorni then told officers that she believed she was in Fairfield. The officer then asked her to exit the vehicle and participate in a series of field sobriety tests, which she did not pass.
Bongiorni was subsequently arrested and transported to headquarters. She was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs and was held on a $250 bond. Bongiorni refused a breathalyzer test and was transported to Stamford Court on Friday, March 8.
