Ridgefield Man Charged In Accidental Firing Of Gun

RIDGEFIELD, Conn. – Ridgefield Police accused a local man of unlawfully firing his gun at home and into his neighbor's apartment on Friday night.

According to the police report, officers responded to a call from Olcott Way at 9:40 p.m., Friday night regarding a hole in the wall. John Henry Lowenstine, 43, was charged with unlawful discharge of a weapon and reckless endangerment after he was accused of firing a rifle in his own apartment and the bullet went through the wall into his neighbor’s apartment.

“It was an accidental discharge, which could be a number of things,” including cleaning the weapon or a having a bullet in the chamber, said Ridgefield Police Capt. Tom Comstock.

Police report that during the investigation three weapons, including the rifle, were removed from the property, which is a standard policy for the department, said Comstock.

Lowenstine was held on a $10,000 bond and appeared in Danbury Superior Court on Saturday. Comstock was not aware if Lowenstine had posted the bond and the outcome of the court appearance is not known.
