Members of the Darien Police Department were dispatched to Walgreens on Heights Road shortly before 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 4, where there was a report of an assault. Police spoke to the victim, an employee at Walgreens, and a description of the suspect was broadcast to investigating officers.
According to police, the Walgreens employee said that he saw two men walk into the store with nothing in their hands, and they were later spotted walking out with a garbage bag full of items. When he approached the two in the parking lot, the employee was struck in the head, causing him to fall to the ground with minor injuries. The suspects then took off.
The employee said he never saw who struck him in the head, because he was talking to the second suspect who had possession of the garbage bag. Police said that several witnesses confirmed the employee’s story.
Police spotted a man - later identified as Brooklyn resident Keston Charles - who matched the description and stopped him near Walgreens. Charles told the officers that he had come from Walgreens with a friend, stating he only knew the second man as “Q.” At the time he was stopped, Charles was in possession of the garbage bag, which had items inside with a value of $1,658.78.
Charles was arrested and charged with robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, larceny, conspiracy to commit larceny, assault, and conspiracy to commit assault. He’s being held on a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Stamford Court at a later date.
