A contractor in Fairfield County is facing charges after allegedly being paid $650,000 for work on a home renovation he never finished, police said.

A homeowner reported to police in Darien that Thomas Faucher, of New Canaan, had been given “a large sum of money” for his business to perform renovations at his home in May last year. In October, the man stated that the work began to slow and Faucher told him that he needed more money to continue.

Following the second payment, the homeowner said he had paid a total of $650,000. No more work was done and the project was never completed. When the homeowner contacted subcontractors, they informed that they were no longer being paid and the subcontractors were paid directly to have the project finished.

An arrest warrant for Faucher was issued following the complaint, and on Sunday, June 9, Faucher turned himself into police custody.

Faucher, 55, was arrested and charged with three counts each of failure to provide cancellations and failure to provide oral cancellations. Following his arraignment, Faucher was released on a $30,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, June 20.
