A Fairfield County man has admitted to his role in a scheme with his uncle, a career criminal, to traffic heroin and cocaine in the area.

Bridgeport resident Efrain Molina - also known as Frankie - pleaded guilty in Bridgeport federal court to one count of conspiracy to distribute, and to possess with intent to distribute, more than 100 grams of heroin and more than 500 grams of cocaine.

United States Attorney John Durham said that in December last year, the Drug Enforcement Administration learned that Efrain Molina’s uncle, Carlitos Molina, was transported heroin and cocaine to Connecticut from his South Carolina home.

The younger Molina then sold the drugs in and around Bridgeport. In January, the DEA and Bridgeport Police Department investigators arranged a controlled purchase of one kilogram of cocaine and 400 grams of heroin from the Molinas for $53,000.

On Jan. 17, the Molinas were arrested when they arrived to make the exchange with the undercover investigators.

Efrain Molina remains released on a $150,000 bond. No sentencing date has been announced, though he will face a minimum term of five years and a maximum term of 40 years in prison.

Durham noted that Carlitos Molina “has an extensive criminal history and, at the time of this offense, was on parole in the State of Georgia for trafficking methamphetamine. He faces the remaining 10 years of a 20-year state sentence when he is released from federal custody.” He’s been detained since his arrest and is scheduled to be sentenced on Thursday, Oct. 17.
