Cecile Smith, 71, Former Teacher, Of Ridgefield

RIDGEFIELD, Conn. – Cecile F. Smith of Ridgefield died Sept. 9 at Bethel Health Care. She was 71. 

Smith was born Jan. 15, 1941 in New York City to Raymond E. and Beatrice G. DeMars Collett. She attended New York schools and received a bachelor's degree from Our Lady of Good Counsel College and a master's degree from Hunter College. She was married to Edward R. Smith, who predeceased her. 

She worked as educator in Bronx, N.Y., for many years and also taught at the Melrose School in Brewster, N.Y. A resident of Ridgefield since 1968 coming from the Bronx, Smith was a member of St. Mary Parish. 

She is survived by a daughter, Margaret "Meg" (Andrew) McVey, of Ridgefield; a son, Douglas J. (Justine) Smith, of Bethel; a brother, Charles R. (Mary) Collett, of Bronxville, N.Y.; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. 

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Kane Funeral Home in Ridgefield. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:15 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Church in Ridgefield, with the Rev. Russell Augustine officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Ridgefield.
