Booze will be banned on Metro-North lines this weekend, as they prepare for a potentially raucous St. Patrick’s Day.

“On Saturday through Sunday, March 17, for travel to/from the St. Patrick's Day Parade, to maintain orderly travel for customers, Metro-North will not permit alcoholic beverages on trains, platforms or at stations. Any alcoholic beverages found by MTA Police will be confiscated. Customers could experience crowded conditions due to heavy travel.”

St. Patrick’s Day is one of three days each year that Metro-North bans alcohol on its trains, including SantaCon in December and New Year’s Eve. MTA said that police will confiscate any alcohol that is spotted.

During the holiday weekend, there will be additional Metro-North trains due to the expected high ridership.

There will be an extra train leaving Poughkeepsie at 8:23 a.m., stopping in New New Hamburg, Beacon and then heading straight into Grand Central Terminal.

The MTA noted that on the Hudson Line, tickets will be collected prior to boarding at Poughkeepsie, New Hamburg and Beacon Stations due to high parade ridership. Customers at these stations must have, or buy their tickets at ticket machines or ticket offices before boarding trains. Customers will not be allowed on platforms without a ticket.
