A Fairfield County man with a lengthy rap sheet will spend a decade in prison after being sentenced for committing multiple robberies at Subway and several bank branches in Connecticut.

Alvin Robertson, 56, of Bridgeport, has been sentenced to 120 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, after robbing three banks and two Subway stores last year.

Last year, Robertson was found guilty of robbing a Subway store on Ethan Allen Highway on May 20 in Ridgefield, and then a second Subway store on Monroe Turnpike in Monroe on July 22. Robertson then targeted a People’s United Bank branch on Aug. 29 on Monroe Turnpike; a branch on Straits Turnpike on Sept. 21 in Watertown; and a branch on Sept. 25 on Farmington Avenue in Berlin.

During the first robbery, Robertson brandished a knife, pointed it at the store clerk and stated, “Give me all your money or I will kill you,” U.S. Attorney John Durham said. During other robberies, he indicated that he was in possession of a gun.

According to arrest records, Robertson has a lengthy criminal history including bank robberies in the 1990s.

Robertson, 55, has been detained since he was arrested on similar state charges on Sept. 27 last year. He pleaded guilty on May 21 this year to one count of bank robbery. He had faced up to 20 years in prison.
