Joshua Besaw, of Thompson, was arrested this week on a federal criminal complaint that charged him with offenses related to the kidnapping and sexual assault of his alleged 12-year-old victim who is from Massachusetts.

It is alleged that on May 31, Besaw encountered his 12-year-old victim at a park in Webster, Mass. and enticed her to get into his vehicle while using the pseudonym “Chuck.” He then allegedly drove the minor to a wooded area in Thompson, where he sexually assaulted her.

Durham said that after the assault, Besaw drove the minor to Dudley, Mass., where she was released in a neighborhood that was unfamiliar to her. She was able to call her parents using a stranger’s cell phone and she was taken to police to report the incident.

Later in the day of the alleged assault, a sexual assault examination of the minor was conducted at a local medical facility.

It is alleged that Besaw was identified as a suspect after an investigation led by Webster Police and Connecticut State Police.

On July 10, investigators conducting surveillance of Besaw collected cigarette butts that Bewsaw discarded, Durham said. The DNA collected from those cigarette butts matched DNA evidence collected from the minor victim during the initial investigation and he was arrested.

Beast was arrested and charged with kidnapping and transportation of a minor to engage in illegal sexual activity. If convicted, Besaw will face a term of between 20 years to life in prison.
