The street was filled with hundreds of children and their families who were getting a jump on Halloween as businesses hosted trick-or-treating on Main Street.

The costumes included everything imaginable from "The Incredibles," to bumblebees, and lions, and even dogs were dressed to the best for the festivities for Halloween.

The Ridgefield Police Department blocked off several parts of Main Street for the safe Halloween event. Workers from local businesses stood outside with baskets, buckets and barrel-loads of candy to give out to everyone.

"This is my first year doing this since I am new to town, and my kids really enjoyed it," Theresa Duncans said.

Crowds lined up outside the popular Toy Chest, one of the oldest businesses in town, with kids and their parents eager to get inside for treats.

The event was scheduled for 10 to noon, but went longer as businesses kept the event going until the last piece of candy was handed out.

"The girls and I had so much; we're definitely going to do this next year," said Janet Macony, the mother of twin girls.

Ridgefield will also host its annual Children’s Halloween Party at The Lounsbury House on Monday, Oct. 31, from 5 to 9 p.m. The event is planned and organized by Ridgefield Police Officers and local teens.

The event is free to attend. For more information, visit its website.
