RIDGEFIELD, Conn. -- More than $1,000 was raised to support voter education and awareness by The Ridgefield League of Women Voters through a recent art raffle and guest bartending event at Gallo Ristorante.
A raffle for Rachel Volpone’s painting “Sea-Blue” was won by Sharon Hyde. Volpone, from a family of voters, painted the piece in honor of her grandfather, who spent time driving senior citizens to the polls.
The league’s mission is to “Make Democracy Work." The event, which was on a Tuesday, coincided with presidential primaries in West Virginia and Nebraska and Ridgefield's local budget referendum.
The league achieves its mission through non-partisan education and advocacy work.
League members Kathleen Slocum, Birgitta Stone and Philip Lodewick were behind the bar, with 10 percent of bar and restaurant sales and 100 percent of bar tips going to the league.
