The snake was first spotted Sunday, Sept. 5, in Middlesex County by an East Haddam resident, slithering across a street during a thunderstorm, reported WTNH News 8.

And while the snake is a first for the town, the snake's owner was surprised to see his snake on social media.

The owner, Rob Peach, thought his snake was hiding in the wall and had no idea it had escaped.

“She likes to climb and she sits in the sun with us,” Peach told News 8. “She’s literally she’s part of the family.”

He said the 30-pound boa is strong but gentle.

“The snake’s name is Tessie it’s short for Tesla,” said Peach who used to work for Tesla.

He added that if you spot the snake during the day it may be sunning itself and it would be in a position with its head about a foot in the air and its mouth open. He said residents shouldn't worry, "Tessie" is only trying to gasp for air.

If someone spots Tessie they should contact the East Haddam Animal Control to come to pick her up at 860-873-5044.
