Jacob J. Awan, 30, of Trumbull, was arrested on Sunday, March 9, and is facing a litany of felonies from the alleged shooting, authorities said.
Police were called to a home in the Walker Road area of Trumbull just before 5 p.m. when a homeowner reported a bullet crashed through their front window. Officers were quick to the scene and arrested Awan, who had a Smith & Wesson pistol tucked into his waistband, authorities said.
Multiple firearms were found inside Awan’s home. While they were legally registered, police seized them as part of their investigation.
Emma E. Prates, 23, of West Haven, who was at Awan's home at the time of the shooting, left before police arrived, but officers spotted her nearby, officials said. When they tried to pull her over, Prates floored it, sparking a chase.
Police tracked her down to her home in West Haven, where she was arrested without incident.
Officers believe Awan fired two rounds through the bay window at the front of his home. One hit the neighbor's house and the other hit near where Prates' car was parked, police said.
It's unclear why he fired the shots, but he and Prates have a volatile history. Awan has a protective order against Prates for a previous domestic dispute, officials said.
Awan is charged with illegal discharge of a firearm, criminal use of a weapon, illegally carrying a firearm while under the influence of drugs, and multiple counts of reckless endangerment, among others. He was held on a $750,000 bond, police said.
Officers seized all of Awan's legally owned firearms.
Prates was charged with violating a protective order, engaging in a police pursuit, and reckless driving. Her bond was set at $15,000, police said.
