Monday, Oct. 1

Grant Writing Class: 9 a.m.-11 a.m. Grant Writing USA presents a two-day workshop on how to find grants and write winning grant proposals. Bone Density Screening:  9 a.m.-1 p.m. Ridgefield Parks and Recreation in collaboration with Physicians Health & Injury Center is offering a bone density screening by Dr. Markowitz. As a part of the Wellness Education Series, you can find out if you are at risk for osteoporosis by taking a simple and painless test to measure bone loss. Ridgefield Parks and Recreation, 195 Danbury Road, Ridgefield.

Special Town Meeting: 6 p.m.-9 p.m. Ridgefield’s Board of Selectmen is having a special public meeting for residents to vote on new deer hunting lands and a potential purchase of state-owned land in town. Ridgefield Town Hall, 400 Main St., Ridgefield.

Murder by the Book Group: 10 a.m.-noon. The Ridgefield Library’s murder mystery book group will be taking on Charles Todd’s novel “A Test of Wills.” The book is about Scotland Yard inspector Ian Rutledge, who is literally haunted by memories of his time in the trenches during World War I. Author Talk with Local Historian George Hancock: 7 p.m.-8:30 p.m. Local historian and author George Hancock will begin his presentation with a talk about the Battle of Ridgefield, called “Who Really Fought the Battle of Ridgefield?” He will also discuss his latest novel, “A Murder at the Inn.” A Q & A and refreshments will follow the talk.
