RIDGEFIELD, Conn. -- The 19th Annual Ceremony to honor Martin Luther King, Jr. at the Ridgefield Playhouse will be held on Monday, Jan. 19, the national holiday honoring the slain civil rights leader.
The Town of Ridgefield invites everyone to celebrate the spirit of King by honoring two students who embody his teachings of peace and equality and by offering celebratory entertainment throughout the event.
The ceremony, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., is open to the public at no charge and will include musical performances, readings and remarks by selected speakers.
This year’s ceremony – for the very first time – will acknowledge the work and personal commitment of two students from Ridgefield High School senior Jake Madeson and freshman Nathan Pereyra.
Madeson’s work with the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports Committee has made a genuine difference in addressing bullying and hazing at the creating a safe climate at the high school. Pereyra’s Buddy Bench initiative has helped to make Ridgefield schools a friendlier, more caring environment.
The Ridgefield Playhouse is at 80 East Ridge.
