RIDGEFIELD, Conn. -- The Bee Foundation, a new nonprofit dedicated to research and awareness into brain aneurysms, will hold its first Connecticut based event in Ridgefield on Thursday.
The Ridgefield Guest Bartender event will be from 6 to 8 p.m. at Gallo Restaurant, 5 Grove St. There is no admission charge.
Chris Sexton and Susie Mendizabal will bartend in remembrance of a friend.
The Foundation was established in honor of Jenny Sedney, a Ridgefield native and 2004 Ridgefield High graduate who died in December 2013, from a ruptured brain aneurysm. In its first 14 months, the new foundation has raised $270,00.
It has just made its first research grant to UCLA for research into risk factors and treatment implications for brain aneurysms, a condition which affects an estimated 1 in 50 people in the United States. Four in 10 people with a ruptured brain aneurysm will die as a result -- and up to another 25 percent die from complications within six months.
Raffle tickets are available for $20 at the event and online at www.thebeefoundation.org/upcoming-events. All bar tips and 10 percent of proceeds from the bar and main dining room go directly to the Foundation.
