New Canaan Art Teacher Who Died Unexpectedly Was 'Free Spirit' Who 'Spoke Her Mind,' Mom Says Alyssa Iwanski always wanted to be an art teacher, her mother said. The 31-year-old spent her youth at her grandmother's side, poring over art books and especially admiring the works of Georgia O'Keeffe. She brought that passion to her classroom at Saxe Middle School in New Canaan, where she hoped to inspire students in the same way. Tragically, the Stratford woman died unexpectedly on Saturday, Jan. 11. Her mother, Louise Iwanski, did not disclose the cause of her daughter's death. New Canaan Teacher Dies Unexpectedly, Middle School Says A Connecticut middle school art teacher died unexpectedly over the weekend, school authorities announced to the community.  Saxe Middle School Teacher Alyssa Iwanski died this weekend, Bryan D. Luizzi, Superintendent of New Canaan Public Schools said in an email to parents on Sunday, Jan. 12.  He did not disclose when or how Iwarnski died.
