Young Norwalk Wrestlers Earn State Honors

NORWALK, Conn. – Four first-year wrestlers in the Norwalk Mad Bull program earned trophies Sunday at the Bantam State Championships in Bristol.

Jack Cahill, Jaylen Carter and Luke Villaluz - all second graders - won their weight classes while Mikey Bartush finished second. The Mad Bulls and coach Randy Haus have only been competing for two years.

The Norwalk wrestlers went 12-1 on the day. Cahill, Carter and Villaluz all pinned their opponents in the final.

The wrestlers earned their way into the tournament by posting a winning record during the regular season and gaining tournament experience, assistant coach Art Schad said.

“They only began wrestling 70 days ago,’’ Schad said. “They didn’t know anything about the sport. To place as well as they did with so little experience is a tremendous achievement.”

There are about 25 young wrestlers in the Mad Bull program. Children in grades 1-8 are eligible to participate with the team. Visit the team’s website for more information.
