NEW CANAAN, Conn. St. Luke's boys varsity basketball returned to the site of the Kingswood Invitational Friday in West Hartford to take on the hometown Wyverns of Kingswood-Oxford School in non-league play.
After a strong start, St. Luke's struggled to score in the second half and dropped a 56-43 decisions.
For the first five minutes, the Storm stood toe-to-toe with its opponent, even holding a lead in the early going. But as Kingswood's offense heated up, the Storm found itself on familiar ground, struggling to hold onto the ball and get points on the board. By halftime, Kingswood was ahead by 13, 34-21. And though the Storm would battle hard on defense in the second half, it could never chip away at that lead.
Scoring was again widely distributed among all players on the St. Luke's squad. Sean Cullinane led the team with 10 points, and Elijah Holyfield added 9. Seven other players contributed. The Wyverns were led by Zack Restifo with 17. Next up, the Storm hosts visiting Hopkins on Monday in a Fairchester Athletic Association game.
