The Norwalk River Rowing Association won gold in three events versus the Mercer Junior Rowing Club and the Lawrenceville School on Saturday. The Boys Varsity Four, Boys Junior Varsity Four, and Boys Novice Eight beat out their rivals over the 2,000 meter course in Princeton, N.J..
The Varsity Four of Patrick Doty (Ridgefield), Matt Labine (Darien), Derek Emerick (Wilton), AJ O'Mahoney (Wilton), and coxswain Spencer Mulligan (Darien) easily handled Mercer in the head to head race, winning by many lengths.
The Junior Varsity Four was in a tight race, beating out Mercer by just a length. The JV four was powered by Matt Koenigsberg (Wilton), Brendan Keevan (Wilton), Will Robertson (Wilton), Carson West (Wilton), and Francesco Criscuolo (Darien).
The Novice Eight stretched their undefeated streak to four races, convincingly walking away from their three-boat field. They beat Lawrenceville by 26 seconds and Mercer by 34 seconds. The Novice Eight included Kyle Mikesh (Westport), Tucker Klutey (Ridgefield), Brad Plunkett (Darien), Jon Massari (Wilton), Joe Torg (Wilton), Trey Chapman (Ridgefield), Ryan Lewis (Wilton), TJ Galowski (Ridgefield), and coxswain Michael Weaver (Darien).
The Girls Novice Four of Alexandra Stonehill (Norwalk), Caroline Demko (Norwalk), Kylie O'Connor (Wilton), Madeline Vocke (Wilton), and coxswain Adrianna Marino (Norwalk) led their race through the first 1,000 meters but were overtaken by a surging Lawrenceville in the second half of the race. They placed second, just 7 seconds behind.
After a weekend off, the NRRA team heads to Lowell, Mass. for the USRowing Northeast Junior Regional Championships on May 15 and 16. The Novice Boys Eight hope to close out the season with their undefeated record intact. The varsity crews will be racing to qualify for one of three bids to the Youth National Championships in Cincinnati in June.
NRRA is a non-profit organization which offers Learn-to-Row, recreational, competitive, and community outreach rowing programs to youth and adults.
