NORWALK, Conn. -- The All Saints Girls junior varsity basketball team won its first Diocesan championship Sunday with a 28-23 win over Wilton's Our Lady Fatima in the championship game.
Gabrielle Joseph led the Norwalk team with 14 points. Kristen Beaumonte added six points while Tatiana Arias had three. Tiffany Scott and Jillian Howe had two each and Kassandra Scott had one. The team was also supported by fine defense from Bryn Reilly, Jolie Lubin and Mia Dunn.
In the quarterfinals, All Saints stopped St. Thomas, of Fairfield, 29-9. All Saints edged St. James, of Stratford, in the semifinals, 20-19. Howes jumper with 25 seconds left gave All Saints the lead, and it withstood a last ditch effort by St. James.
Earlier this winter, All Saints took second in the St. Thomas tournament, All Saints Christmas Classic and Our Lady of Fatima Tournament. The team won the St. Anns League championship and moves on to the New England CYO Playoffs starting March 30 in Burlington, Vt.
