Norwalk Schools Tie at Five-Way Meet

There was a lot of action around the track Thursday in Darien, with five high schools competing against each other. In the end, though, the Norwalk’s two high schools finished together. Norwalk High and Brien McMahon ended the meet in a tie, 75-75.

Darien, New Canaan and Wilton joined Norwalk’s two schools in the five-way meet. The Senators came out ahead against the Rams, but lost to the Warriors and the Blue Wave. McMahon finished the regular season 10-6-2. The Bears, however, lost their three other matches, but importantly maintained the tie in the intracity rivalry. Norwalk is now 9-8-1.

The day was not without controversy, with a notable finish to the 100 meter dash. McMahon’s Bryan Langley-Wade appeared to take the first heat, but there was a misfire in the starting gun and many runners stopped or hesitated. Langley-Wade hobbled a bit after the heat because of a tight hamstring. When the heat was re-run after the remaining sets, he finished in third, and later he would sit out the 400.

Norwalk’s Adam Robertino continued his domination of the hurdles, with wins in both the 110 meters and the 300. Robertino is undefeated in both events this season. "[Thursday] was definitely a good day for me," he told The Hour. "In the hurdles, I did an average time. The 300 hurdles was almost my best of the whole year and in the 4x400, I had a really good sprint."
