The kickoff event for the Chelsea Cohen Fitness Academy is Thursday, Aug. 5 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Norwalk High football stadium.The event is open to the public and free. All area youth groups are encouraged to attend.
The Cohen Academy will be the hub for a countywide effort to provide more awareness and educational focus on having children have access to a more active and healthy lifestyle. The Academy has been created by the Fairfield County Sports Commission to further honor Cohen, for whom the Commission's Courage Award is named since her death in 2006.
The evening will celebrate the positives of leading an active lifestyle and be a collaborative community effort to bring together all organizations working with area youth. There will be activities and demonstrations from leading professionals in the fitness, health and wellness, weight training, nutrition and sports medicine throughout the evening. All area youth organizations are invited to attend and have a booth where they can display information and meet parents and children interested in their programs. Sports personalities will also be on hand to sign autographs.
