NORWALK, Conn. -- Norwalk Community College's exercise science and wellness student team won the New England Regional College Bowl Competition at the recent New England Chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine’s October meeting in Providence, R.I.
The Norwalk Community College team went up against 19 other schools in the region at the October meeting, college officials said.
The college bowl tests teams' knowledge of exercise physiology, anatomy and kinesiology, college officials said.
"NCC is the only two-year program ever to compete in this annual College Bowl event that is held during the NEACSM meeting,” said Paul Gallo, director of the NCC exercise science and wellness program.
From here, the Norwalk team goes on to compete in May against 12 other regional winners at the national American College of Sports Medicine meeting in Boston, Mass.
“My colleagues in the ACSM inform me that we are the only community college to participate in the College Bowl in the nationals,” Gallo said. “This is a tremendous accomplishment for the exercise science program and NCC."
