In response to a request for clarification from the propane industry, in December of 2014 the Connecticut Department of Revenue Services clarified a 1995 law that resulted in propane deliveries being subject to the 8.1 percent gross receipts tax for homes that use a common propane tank to supply a propane powered generator.
“Over the last five years Connecticut has experienced more than its fair share of severe storms and resulting losses of electricity,” said Duff. “Propane for use in generators should not be taxed. That’s why I fought to protect consumers and change the law.”
“People who have installed propane backup generators for their homes should not be penalized with an additional tax,” said David Gable, president of Hocon Gas, Inc. which is headquartered in Norwalk. “This change in the law makes sense and really is a win for consumers. I want to thank Senator Duff for his leadership on this important issue.”
